Amazon.co.uk Review The Dualit Vario toaster makes great toast, looks stunning and is built to last. This three-slice model has a classic stainless steel finish. The three slots are 28 mm wide with self-adjusting wire guards to automatically accommodate a broad range of bread thicknesses. The slots also support the separately available sandwich cage, which is a useful addition for making toasted sandwiches, buns and crumpets, though it is possible to toast the latter without a cage. The Dualit is a sturdy beast with a retro look. It weighs in at around 4 kg and has minimal controls, all with a reassuringly solid feel. The red backlit slot-selector switch lights up to tell you when the toaster is in use and can be set for two or three slices. This is important, as the toaster uses a patented ProHeat element that is optimised to quickly produce evenly cooked toast. However, the element's lifespan may be shortened if a slot is regularly heated while empty. A black rotary time switch means that you need to determine how long you want to toast each and every time you use the Dualit, rather than relying on a default setting as seen with other toasters. One of the advantages of the Dualit toaster is that the bread doesn't pop up when the timer is finished. Instead, you need to press down the central black ejector knob to remove your toast. This ensures that your toast stays warm for longer if you are not there to remove it straightaway. Another component of note is a useful slide-out crumb tray. Results are impressive, with beautifully even toasting in all slots and up to 98 slices per hour (three medium slices from cold takes around two minutes). However, the most compelling reason for putting a Dualit toaster in your kitchen is its perfect blend of durability and style. --Heather Wilson

the king of toasters June 1, 2006 M. Lyle (Larne, N Ireland) 16 out of 19 found this review helpful
this is without doubt the undisputed, undefeated king of toasters. i cannot praise it enough, and if i was to be asked what the greatest ever kitchen product was then i would have to answer "dualit toaster". in fact, it might just be the greatest ever invention, right up there with sliced bread and electricity. at least that is what i think when i am waiting for it to complete its toasting cycle. The most impressive thing is the remarkably even nature of the toasting- no burnt bits, no uncooked areas, and no problem with bread of an atypical shape or size. Its a small price to pay for a piece of perfection. Apart from the toast, it looks good too- And there is a certain smug satisfaction that comes from knowing that you own something that simply cannot be surpassed in quality by your friends or family. Its probably like the feeling a ferrari owner has when they pull out of their driveway in the morning. If you love toast, you need a dualit toaster in your life.
Brilliant and Eco Friendly! January 8, 2008 Snapper (London) The reason why this toaster is so brilliant is that it is the ONLY toaster which can be repaired (according to my repair man, no one else sells spare parts for their toasters other than Dualit). So rather than buy a cheaper one, which will end up in a landfill site when it breaks down, I can have my Dualit repaired if it should break down - though my parents have had theirs for 20 years and it's still going strong. It may be expensive, but it will probably be around longer than I am! Oh, and it also makes excellent toast!
Why so expensive? September 9, 2007 Mr. Steven Empson (Yorkshire) 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
Tip of the day. Don't listen to nutty reviewers of this product. If you want a bit of brand name style in your kitchen then it seems you have to pay the ridiculous price. But what does it do? It toasts toast! That is what it does. It isn't rocket science so don't tell me it is the greatest invention ever! Yes it does toast evenly but so did my 20 quid Morphy Richards. Just get it. Like me you are buying a brand to make your mates go wow and most of them don't anyway.
