5 out of 5 stars Great price for a great toaster.   December 9, 2007

We had an expensive toaster that had broken and we purchased a cheap replacement for 12.It was a hopeless waste of money, some burn't,some untoasted edges and the bread kept jamming. We decided to purchase this toaster as it was a brand we had experience of and it seemed good value. Its' chrome finish looks great in our kitchen and the toast is as we like it.The bread is toasted but not all the way through. As you bite into it,you have a taste and a texture. It doesn't turn bread into something that resembles hot cardboard. For the older generation, that i'm part of,it makes toast that we made as kids, bread toasted over the coal fire.In short, superb toast.Buy it and enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent toast, fantastic value.   December 11, 2007

Before I bought this brilliant toaster, I'd been using a cheap one, which I now realise was false economy. This toasts the bread beautifully. It is also an absolute bargain, having been reduced by 25.00. I don't know how Sophia who has her own review here, worked out that the reduction was 0.01p. The point is that whatever the price, it's a great product.

I am going to take this back. It is temperamental and inaccurate. The design is poor in that as you push the toast down the knob can catch the browning setting, increasing it. It is inconsistent, the first slice is not toasted enough, the second is burnt. It is driving us all mad!

2 out of 5 stars Smoking...   February 1, 2008

I do not like this toaster. Let me count the ways:
1/ The burnt edges and untoasted middle
2/ The light/dark control that seems to get knocked every time the toast goes down leaving you with either tepid bread or charcoal. Or you can reset it (very precisely!) every time you toast...
3/ The eject that happens silently and raises the height of the bread millimetres. So, you don't know when the toast is done - unless you spot the smoke coming out the top...
The good points? Well, it looks good. That's about it. I've had it four months and, most mornings, think about cereal now. Is Russell Hobbs owned by Kellogs? Can't think what the positive reviewers for this product used to make toast with before they got this...

1 out of 5 stars really terrible toaster   January 30, 2008

first thing - this toaster toasts very unevenly.
second thing - its up-down spring mechanism is cranky, catches the slightest imperfection in bread corners/edges
third thing - does not raise toast high enough to take it out of the toaster after cooking.
our new model broke within 4 months.
