Kitchen Aid beats Dualit any day August 15, 2007 Mark Bennett (Macon, France) 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
Having suffered poorly browned toast and cheaply made internals I decided to look for a new toaster that would do the job correctly. I knew all about Dualit of course but I wanted a toaster without a Mickey Mouse mechanical timer. I don't want to judge when the toast is ready I want the toaster to do the work. A simple dial setting and a light flick of a toggle switch and the K.A goes into action. A pleasing blue light shows it is toasting and a beep at the end of the cycle to make you aware. This toaster is solid, elegant and will make you glad you chose it. If you are not worried about colour then certain colours are cheaper than others. I liked the sombre gun/grey of mine. It's also easy to clean and says to others that you choose based on quality and function. Buy Dualit if you wish to pay more for something that has all the finesse and function of a 1970's Russian made car. Buy the KitchenAid if you think the latest Bentleys and Aston Martins look elegant and function well in their class.
Rolls Royce Toaster.....but with problems May 15, 2008 PC Pete (England) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Huge, solid, heavy. Looks like a tank, albeit an immaculately designed one with a cool blue light. In action, the toaster is magnificent. Bread is toasted completely uniformly - no more burned edges or cold patches. This toaster beeps when done rather than popping up - this keeps your fresh toast nice and warm until you're ready for it. Based on the first 2 months of use, this would be an unequivocal five star review. No question. But after 2 months the beeper broke. No more reassuring peeeeeeeep sound when the toast is done. Oh, well, no biggy. Who can't work out that the toast is done when the blue light goes out? But then.....the on/off switch became temperamental - sometimes the blue light would come on without the heating elements coming on. Result? Back this toaster went to Amazon. But I'm optimistic. I've asked for an identical replacement which shows how impressed I was with this toaster initially. With luck, the new one will have all of the qualities and none of the faults. We'll see....
