Toast is a serious business in my flat, and I've seen toasters that couldn't cope with the pressure come and go - 2 slice, 4 slice, 6 slice, chrome, plastic, electronic, winch-operated. You name it, I've cursed it in every language under the sun for consistently delivering bread as white as a freshly-scrubbed dove. Or, alternatively, as blackened and charred as the heart of a certain Pop Idol judge.

This toaster is different. Firstly, it looks fantastic. The curved, polished steel body almost makes the act of inserting the bread feel like something you really should dress up for (so, probably a bit inconvenient if you're as bleary-eyed and madly-haired as me first thing in the morning). Looks aren't everything though, and this toaster has it where it counts. There are numerous handy features, the best of which is the browning level indicator, a flashing strip that gives you an idea of how your toast is doing without having to burn your eyelashes off whilst trying to peer into the slots.

There is also an audio indicator that alerts you when the toast is ready. Some people may find this annoying after a time, but I found it incredibly handy especially as I'm easily distracted by the morning cartoons. The usual reheat and defrost settings are present, as well as a great `Bagel' setting that ensures only one side of your teacake gets toasted.

In truth, I've not found anything this toaster can't handle. At the weekend, it handled six rounds of crumpets with astonishing ease (yes, it was only a light breakfast). My flatmate has declared it to be the "best toaster ever" and has developed a slightly worrying attachment to it. A great buy for any grilled-bread aficionado. - Michael Fielding, Amazon.co.uk

5 out of 5 stars Great Toast from a funky Toaster   June 21, 2007

I've had this toaster for about 6 months now and a it's served me well -- unlike the other review I noticed... It's really cool, you pop your toast in the slots select the cycle you want (a really cool little blue led light which tells you what you've selected), press the "go" button and it sucks your toast down, once your toast is finished it lets of a discrete but loud enough to hear 3 beeps, which I find v.useful as I'm normally busy doing 100 other things and can forget that I've even put toast in. It then slides your toast back up (popping up is far too common for this toaster). It toasts both sides of the toast equally -- and is deep enough to do a full large slice too! It looks really cool in my kitchen and we've had a few friends comment on how cool it looks, plus my other half loves it, defo something for a gadget freak. Plus I have toasted enough toast for all the family and it toasts evenly each time.

1 out of 5 stars Utterly diabolical!   May 3, 2006

In six months we have made our way through three of these toasters with all of them developing the same daft fault! After a few weeks use the toaster decides it does not like doing two rounds of toast in a row and on second round it keeps lowering and rising the bread for approximtely half an hour and beeping non-stop! Frustrating. Waiting for this one to go wrong as we speak!

1 out of 5 stars A Joke toaster   September 4, 2007

We had 5 of these toasters over a 2 year period. Not the same fault as the other reviewers. The toast stopped browning on one side. This happened all the
toasters. I cannot fault customer service however as they finally sent a cheque when the last one went.

1 out of 5 stars DONT BUY !!!!   February 21, 2008

After working OK for 2 months, it developed a fault which meant you could only toast once untill it had cooled down again, ie. the carriage kept continually raising and lowering. Amazon sent me a replacement no problem.
After a further 2 months this developed exactly the same fault. Amazon sent me a full refund on request. This is obviously an inherrant fault with this product and should be withdrawn from sale.

1 out of 5 stars Broke within a short amount of time... highly disappointed!!   September 14, 2008

After only a couple of months the toaster started to break.

At first the toaster was great with all its little gadgets but then after a couple of months it kept on lowering and rising the bread.... you never knew if it was going to work or not.

Very disappointed.
