Great Toast! April 23, 2003 19 out of 19 found this review helpful
I have never been a great fan of toasters as they never seem to last! However the Russell Hobbs Classic deals with heavy regular usage without any problems. Easy to clean with the pull out tray and with the settings for frozen bread great toast is produced every time!!!! Definitely a good buy!
Best Toaster Ever January 26, 2007 P. Stubbs (Norfolk, UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
We have had loads of different toasters which brown the bread ok but leaves the toast too hard, This toaster is the best we have ever had it browns evenly and leaves the toast lovely and soft inside. This toaster is highly recommended

I've had mine since 1999 (8 years) and it's finally given up the ghost (only toasts 2 slices at a time these days). I was quite surprised at the 'over engineered' electro mechanical approach to the 'hold down' mechanism (levers won't stay down if it's not plugged in) but I guess that's a feature (don't think you're toasting if you're not). I've had no problems with leavers catching/rattling and basically, it's done what it said on the tin from day 1. Back in the day, it surely was the #1 most expensive toaster and had I not been spending relocation expenses I'd have plumped for something of considerably less quality but now it's priced 'mid market' I'd go for it again if I hadn't been seduced by Tefals 40% faster toaster Avanti Delux. Also, something to note: it takes up a fair amount of real estate on the worksurface which as I've a new kitchen I'm a bit jealous of. If anyone who designs these things reads this, I'd like a 'shake down feature' to encourage the crumbs into the sink/crumb tray so that when I put it away, it doesn't necessitate a cupboard spring clean on a weekly basis!
You are buying a cheap, useful, but not durable toaster September 9, 2007 Lancebastion (stratazon.co.uk) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
As you'll see below, this is not the most durable toaster in the world. Then again, it's not the most expensive either. Most important is that it does 4 slices. 2 Slices is no good, no good at all. 2 Slices is for single or very thin people. 4 slices covers you and your partner. If you've just bought a home, you want a cheap, good looking toaster that covers the whole 1-4 slice range... get this! Just don't throw it across the room (even a small room), it will break.
Can't complain... December 5, 2008 Major Jim (UK) We got this toaster two-and-a-half years ago for a wedding present, and have no complaints. The construction is based on a classic 4-slice toaster, finished in chrome / shiny stainless steel. The slices work in pairs; ie you can either use just the two on the left hand side of the toaster, or all 4, depending on how many slices of bread you are toasting. Two crumb trays do a good job of collecting crumbs. Functions-wise, there is a knob to turn to control how well-done the toast becomes; this simply controls the length of toasting-time. There is a cancel button, and also a button to tell the toaster you are using frozen bread (this automatically increases the time the toaster remains 'on' without you having to adjust your usual settings. Pros: The toaster is quite elegant, as far as toasters go, and is also fairly compact for a 4x1-style machine. It is also still working after 2.5 years, which I would expect, but is a good sign. Cons: It isn't the fastest machine in the world; you do have to wait a while especially for 'more-browned' toast. Also, I don't know if it would really char the bread (should you want it to), if it was set to maximum - we have it set about 75% but we don't like our toast too well done! Lastly, the slots are a little narrow, so if you're using crusts etc you may struggle to fit them in.
