The perfect kettle - looks and function March 4, 2007 S. J. Binnie 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I bought the kettle for the gorgeous design and the great reputation of the Le Creuset brand. I read the reviews after I'd bought it and started to worry. There was no need. It works brilliantly. I've had no problems with the whistle (though I find it sounds slightly louder when rotated according to the picture on the box) and it looks amazing. Of course it takes slightly longer than an electric kettle, but you expect that when you buy one that sits on the hob. Be realistic. I'm over the moon with my new kettle, it's brilliant and works exactly as I expected it to. If you're tempted, buy one.
Sheer Elegance on the Kitchen Stove! June 20, 2004 AMAZON REVIEWER 29 out of 31 found this review helpful
Stylish enameled steel stove top kettle, suitable for all heat sources including ceramic hobs, which makes a pleasant change! Typical brilliance from 'Le Creuset'. A kettle that looks the part! A shrill whistle gets your attention and this elegant kettle is so much more stylish than these dreadful 'modern day' kettles that seem to get more and more bizarre-looking and last less and less time if in a hard water area that ruins the element, hidden or otherwise!
Whistling kettle May 18, 2003 32 out of 41 found this review helpful
Now I get my hot drink when I originally wanted it! No more turning the electric kettle off and then being distracted by other activitites and ending up not getting the drink for another hour or so - and no more water which has been boiled for 4 or 5 times. Now the whistle whistles and it needs a response, so whilst turning it off the drink is made - however, one word of warning... don't put it on to boil as you perform your morning ablutions, hearing it whistle merrily whilst you are otherwise detained is murder!!!
Doesn't live up to its looks February 11, 2007 Neil W (Sheffield, UK) 6 out of 9 found this review helpful
The kettle looks fabulous, which is the sole reason for the three stars. There are however two major flaws that let it down: It takes ages to boil and doesn't whistle. The fact that it takes ages to boil is particularly annoying when people like electricians / plumbers pop in and you want to offer them a quick cup of tea, because it tends to be the case that the kettle is just coming to the boil when they've done their job and are on their way out again. This is perhaps not a feature specific to this kettle, but all hob-top kettles in general. The fact that it doesn't whistle seems quite specific to this kettle (other reviews mention it as well). When our kettle comes to the boil, it tends to gurgle and hiss a bit, but that's about it. You'd think that with a device as simple as a kettle, the manufacturers would have at least made sure that it whistles. Nonetheless, three stars are warranted simply for its good looks.
Attractive but ineffective December 5, 2006 Nicholas Smith 6 out of 13 found this review helpful
We use our cheap electric kettle much more than this one. The Le Creuset takes too long to heat up on an electric hob, and worst of all the whistle is inaudible even from the next room. It emits merely a feeble hissing, no matter how much water you put in.
