Cold, weak coffee May 25, 2008 R. V. Nelson 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought this percolator about 3 months ago. I can live with the flimsy lid by taking care not to pull at the plastic top and prizing off the lid via its metal rim. After a good start, the pot began to switch off and show the "ready" light long before the coffee was percolated. The result was a weak, watery, tepid brew and a basket full of wasted and expensive coffee beans. Rather than send the pot back, I took off the base (the two deep-set screws) and and looked to see if I could find the thermostat. It is a small drum-shaped object held against the base of the pot with a fairly light-weight bracket. I gently bent this bracket away from the pot base so the thermostat had a tiny gap between it and the base. The pot now works as it should - hot coffee but not boiled. I guess I have invalidated my guarantee, but the chances are if I had exchanged the pot, the replacement would have had the same fault.
Developed too many problems! September 23, 2006 Ms. A. Ross (UK) 23 out of 23 found this review helpful
I bought this percolator last November. I chose this one because it was within my budget and it was a brand I'd heard of and respected. It does make a very nice cup of coffee and it looks good on the counter, but those are the only positive things I can say. The lid broke a couple of months ago, because to remove it you're pulling against the acryllic top and it's not strong enough because the lid fits really tightly, so it cracks. I rang Prestige about it and they kindly sent me a new lid. Unfortunately it's not looking like it will last too long either. This was annoying enough, but today it cheekily sprung a bad leak around the handle! So the whole thing is pretty well useless to me and 10 months after buying it, I'm shopping for a new one.

Like Mrs A Ross i bought this perculator as there are few perculators around and it was a reasonable price. In fact I have now bought 2 of these. In both instances within a few months the plasstic lid split when removing the top to fill the perculator. It would appear this is a serious design fault. I won't buy another
