4 out of 5 stars Excellent kettle. Replacement filter hard to find.   May 11, 2006

The Aura 10662 is a modern, smart looking kettle. Ours is 2 years old, and yes it is a little noisy, but no more so than other kettles that we have had. Not having the element inside the kettle means that I don't have to spend time trying to clean it. We have had no trouble with this kettle itself. The only problem has been the small removable limescale filter. A year ago the mesh came away, and recently the plastic filter snapped in two. At the moment I am still trying to track down a replacement filter as the kettle doesn't pour so well without it.

I had the old model for the Russel Hobbs--many may remember it: shorter and squattier--but it was balanced and a kettle you could count on. Also it was very quiet compared to this new version. The new one also doesn't feel as ergonomically correct. I know this sounds like nit-picking, but when you use the thing as much as I do, you want it to feel comfortable. Give us back the old Russell Hobbs! And the only reason I don't still have my old one is that I wore it out after fifteen years of use--not bad for a three time a day kettle.

Lovely looking kettle. Looks great sat on the kitchen worktop; and that's about where its usefulness ends. Very stupidly designed is putting it mildly. The black plastic top creates a deep ledge so that the kettle has to be moved to the horizontal to pour. The lip is not pronounced enough and there is a useless vent as the front, not forgetting a daft plastic mesh. So when pouring hot water splashes around not in a single controllable flow but in several. The hinges to the lid are very flimsy and fragile. How can you design a crap kettle? Ask Russell Hobbs.

I purchased the Aura kettle. Its noisy and you have to keep rinsing the filter if you can remove it. I am in a relativly soft water area, the filter is to small. Try getting a spare switch, mine burnt out. Russell Hobbs say return it to them and they will check and tell me the price of repair and return postage. Cheaper to buy another kettle, not theirs though.

This is a smart little kettle to look at - it's just a shame it doesn't work well. It is quite a noisy kettle when it is switched on. But the main problem is getting it to stay switched on at all. I have had two of these kettles and each time within a few months faults have arisen with the kettle switching itself off before it has finished boiling. Both times, the problem got progressively worse - until it got to the point where I had to stand by the kettle to keep switching it back on when it continually turned itself off. Russell Hobbs admitted this was due to a product-fault the first time, but refused to replace the second kettle. Despite its apparent reputation for quality, I wouldn't trust Russell Hobbs again - either for product-quality or for customer-service.
