Environmentally sound November 2, 2007 David Prime (UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I disagree with the previous reviewer in that you can boil a small quantity of water (read the description above for the manufactrurers description) also I have found the fact that the top is so easy to open that it works particularly well with my water filter. I do agree that the water content gauge is difficult to read and I usually look inside mine to check the level as I fill it. I am so pleased with this kettle that I am thinking of buying a Krups toaster; a shame they are only available in chrome.

This is one of the poorest performing kettles I have ever used. It looks very nice but it is incredibly noisy and not a particularly fast boiler. On my item, the hinged lid did not always engage or stay shut, which is a bit of a safety hazard to say the least. Also, only after a few months use, the kettle had a tendancy to leak around the seam above the On/Off switch. From my experience I would not purchase another.
looks great but thats all it has going for it November 13, 2008 davidr_128 (london) Pros: + looks fantastic + easy to descale the main compartment Cons: - very noisy boiler - makes more noice than the 20 yr old boiler heating the whole house! - the trigger to release the lid became temperamental after 1-2 years - lid hinge gave up after 1-2 years - if you want it to stay good looking - descaling the outer trim (rim, waistline, splashes on the rest of the body) is more of a faff than you'd expect Overall: Disappointing for what looks like it should be a well built piece of german engineering, and a product that shouldnt be all that difficult to get right...
Environmentally unfriendly February 10, 2007 Y. Ward (Hampshire, UK) 17 out of 21 found this review helpful
There is a "dead space" of one litre of extra water which has to be boiled unnecessarily every time the kettle is used. In other words to boil 200mls of water you have to boil 1200ml each time. This would cost around [...] of wasted electricity each year. The water viewing window is difficult to see because it is behind the handle. The hinged lid makes it difficult to fill from my water filter. I have returned it.
There should be a ZERO star option January 20, 2008 Nimblepixie (UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
What a rubbish piece of junk this is. We bought ours at the beginning of December. Yesterday, after waiting too long for Krups to get back to us, we caved in and bought another kettle, defintely NOT Krups. From day 1 it was all wrong. It constantly had a smell of hot plastic from it. We thought it would wear off after a few uses but it didn't. The water fill level leaked constantly, even when it wasn't boiling. When it was boiling it was extremely dangerous, splashing boiling water all over the counter top. The "seal" around the lid also let water through when the kettle was at the MAX fill level. We were never able to boil a full kettle because of it. The water could barely be half way up before we could risk turning it on. The quick boil feature??? HA! The old kettle we bought this heap of rubbish to replace boiled water faster and it didn't boast a quick boil feature. As someone else mentioned, the noise is similar to a light aircraft taking off in your kitchen. Plus, it's very heavy with water in it. As we couldn't ever fill it I can only imagine you would need wrists of steel to hoist it from the tap to it's base. We contacted Krups about it several weeks ago and heard NOTHING. Again, I e-mailed last week and have heard NOTHING. I cannot return it to the shop as we don't have the receipt.....lesson learned there for sure! I was in the shop where I bought the original kettle last week and saw a woman picking up one of these kettles and told her of my woes. She put the kettle back and went for another, a much more reliable brand I hope. Yesteday we bought a Breville Spectra as it was on sale and we NEEDED a kettle that wouldn't leave us with 3rd degree burns. It was cheaper than the Krups and so far it is a dream. If you want to waste your money on this abismal kettle, and potentially skin grafts for your arms, then go right ahead. But if you just want a kettle to boil water safely, run a mile. We always had a Krups appliance at home when I was growing up as they were reliable and had great customer service. How the mighty have fallen!
