Product Description
New from Alessi in 2002 by the designer of the best selling bird whistle hob kettle, Michael Graves, a cordless electric kettle. Made from stainless steel, the handle and power base are in thermoplastic resin. Please note that the bird does not whistle on the electric range.

4 out of 5 stars style or substance?   January 30, 2008

Okay this may not be the most practical kettle on the market. it is heavy and does take a little longer to boil.

However it is well made, durable and looks fantastic in any modern kitchen. If you like Alessi products and want to continue the look then this kettle is worth the investment!

Ours broke after less than a year and the shop replaced it. The new one broke (different problem) after a further 1.5 years and Alessi do not reply to our correspondence asking how to fix it. Bad buy, given the price!

1 out of 5 stars Expensive and dangerous   December 28, 2007

We were given this toaster as a house warming gift and although it looks very nice and is a style-icon I much preferred my old kettle which had everything I expect from a kettle (rapid boil, water level mark, heat resistant)

Pros:
- Looks nice

Cons:
- Takes a long time to boil
- Kettle is heavy, especially when full
- No water level mark so yuo don't know how much water is in the kettle unless you take the lid off; as the kettle itself is so heavy you can't judge by the weight of it!
- Base is quite big in circumference so takes up alot of space on your kitchen top
- Chrome heats up and can easily burn your skin if you touch it which in my opinion is dangerous (especially for children)
- Water often splurts out of the spout as you pour the kettle after boiling which has led to me being scalded a couple of times
- Expensive

I wouldn't buy this kettle and I wish it would break so I could get rid of it - unfortuantely my husband really likes it so he won't let me get out my old kettle, even though he doesn't make the tea!!!

1 out of 5 stars expensive for one years use   October 14, 2008

First kettle lasted 4 months and was replaced under warranty. Second kettle lasted all of 18 months before giving up the ghost. Frustrating as we no longer live in a hard water area and felt justified in paying the vast cost, thinking the kettle would give us several years use. I loved it for the style (and was willing to put up with it being so slow to boil) but agree that it can be dangerous as hot water splatters out of the spout on pouring. All in all, a total waste of money.

1 out of 5 stars All style no substance.   October 23, 2008

This is the worst kettle I have ever used. Not only is it overpriced it is ridiculously heavy and every time it finishes boiling you have to wait to pour otherwise scalding hot water spurts out everywhere. Also, the bird for the spout is purely ornamental it must be removed when using the kettle otherwise the water pours out in two streams away from the cup.
