5 out of 5 stars Does exactly what says on the box...   June 14, 2004

I was bought this as a present, and it works perfectly. Just measure the rice with the included cup, rinse it in a sieve, add to the cooker and top up with water to the correct line. Turn it on and get on with cooking the rest of your meal. You don't even need to worry about exactly when it finishes, as the "keep warm" function keeps it ready until you're ready to eat.

I've used it to cook for my wife and I a few times, and then really tested it this weekend by cooking rice for 11 people. No problem at all, and most of the guests commented on how nicely cooked the rice was!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Rice   January 27, 2006

I got this as an Xmas present and it's been excellent. So good in fact that at the minute we're using it 3-4 times a week! No problems at all with mine and the warm feature works well - though I'd not leave it on for hours and hours. The rice is quick to make and tastes far better than I achieved with a pan - much "stickier" which is how I like it! Never had any of the problems some of the other reviewers report.

5 out of 5 stars Convenient, much easier than cooking rice on the hob.   May 9, 2007

I find this rice cooker easy to use. Providing you rinse the rice well to remove any excess starch, and if you have time leave the drained rice for 30 mins before adding water and cooking this rice cooker produces fluffy long grains. The keep warm facility is really handy and doesn't seem to dry out the rice providing you have added the correct amount of water. The non-stick bowl is easy to clean too. It's nice to have a functional and stylish rice cooker in the kitchen (in the past all of mine have been white and boring). It's great if you're cooking for a crowd and definitely saves the hassle of standing over the hob and getting soggy rice. I have had a go at using the steamer bowl with veg have been satisfied with the results. Definitely worth it if you regularly cook rice.

4 out of 5 stars Great apart from the 'spitting'   January 6, 2008

I bought this rice cooker around four years ago and have used it very regularly (about once a week) since then. The cooker produces lovely tasting, fluffy rice and is extremely easy to use.
I have owned other rice cookers and they left a much thicker layer of 'burnt' rice on the bottom than this one does. There is just a layer of slightly yellow rice left at the bottom but this tastes fine.
With regard to the liquid that spits out of the cooker in use, i usually drape a tea towel over the cooker during cooking to minimize this problem. If Tefal found a way to stop the spitting I would give this product five stars.

2 out of 5 stars Not a Bad Rice Cooker, But Not a Good One Either   January 14, 2008
JammieDodger77 (London, UK)
I have been given two of these rice cookers - each one has lasted for an average of 8 years.

Both times, the rice cooker worked ok until it died. The loose lid meant that at boiling point, the lid jumped up and down and was quite noisy, whilst it spat starchy water all over the surrounding worktop. The rice it cooked was generally ok - a little more water than the measure is required. I've also used my rice cooker to make a chinese style risotto on many occasions and it worked fine.

I am looking for a new rice cooker, but will not be buying any more Tefals as I know that there are better makes that will perform better and last longer.
