Great little machine - love it! August 25, 2008 Mrs. TS Kershaw (High Wycombe, UK) I love this little machine, it does just as it said in the book! Easy to put together and clean (just rinse under warm soapy water). Keep the bowl in the freezer so it is always ready and make sure your mixture is chilled before you put it in the frozen bowl for churning! Makes great tasty icecream, quickly and easily. Tip - make sure you dry the bowl properly before placing back in the freezer.
Simple Yet Effective April 23, 2007 L. H. Kirby (London, UK) 21 out of 21 found this review helpful
I'm in love with this little machine already. Does exactly what you'd expect, turns out great results and is easy to clean. The instruction manual has plenty of recipe ideas to start you off. 1.5 litres is plenty of capacity since home-made ice-cream is much richer than the shop bought version. NB - and this is speaking from experience! - chill your mixture well and have the bowl rock-solid frozen before you start.

This is a great little ice-cream maker with plenty of capacity (1.5 L). I was slightly surprised by how low-tech ice-cream makers are. It's basically a base that you freeze overnight (or keep in the freezer, ready for an impulse churning!) and a motor-driven paddle which slots on top. Then you pour in your mixture and it churns away. N.B. always start the paddle turning BEFORE adding anything to the bowl, or it will freeze instantly and jam the paddle when you try and start it churning! The instructions do clearly state this, though! I've made some really great ice-creams with this maker. When the ice-cream is done, it's slightly softer than most shop-bought ice-cream in the UK, so putting it in the freezer for an hour or two with firm it up, if that's your preference.
Good, but just as much hassle as without. July 9, 2008 Gordy (London, England) A machine such as this renders the process of making ice cream only slightly less drawn-out than the conventional method. Using a machine saves time when it comes to the freezing part, but the preparation requires much more time. First, the bowl of the machine has to be frozen a day in advance before the machine can be used (the manual suggests a minimum of 10hrs for a 4-star freezer; i suggest 24hrs for acceptable results, with the freezer turned down to the coldest setting). Additionally, the ice cream mixture has to be absolutely chilled before it can be used, otherwise it'll thicken slightly in the machine, but never freeze sufficiently well to solidify into ice cream - i normally make it a day in advance, letting it chill in the fridge overnight. If everything goes well, you'll end up with a very soft ice cream, almost like a very thick smoothie, so you'll have to transfer it to a box and let it solidify for a couple of hours further in the freezer. The machine is fairly compact and won't take up much space on the worktop, but your freezer will probably require some rearranging to accommodate the freezing bowl portion of the machine. In operation it is fairly noisy, but not unacceptably so.
not great June 25, 2008 Dr. Simon J. Gerhand 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have owned one of these for about 5 years. There is only one switch (on/off), and that broke after a couple of uses, so I got a replacement. I make a lot of desserts and ice creams, and have never achieved particularly good results with this machine. The mixture never seems to set properly, irrespective of how long you leave it in the machine, so you always have to finish off by putting it in the freezer for a few hours. This often leads to ice crystals, the avoidance of which is the whole point of using an ice cream maker. It has allowed me to experiment with flavours, but the texture is always disappointing. Now there are more machines on the market, I am going to move on to something else. I would not recommend this one.
