I am really impressed with this item. Forget the steamers with the plastic baskets - especially if you have a dishwasher - this is the one for you! Item has metal baskets so you won't have the trouble of the baskets cracking beyond use and it is also multi function. Temperature is controllable too. Only drawback is that it doesn't have a timer like an ordinary steamer, but hey that isn't really a problem.

If you are fed up with steamers that don't last 5 minutes with plastic trays and dividers that just fall apart then this could be the answer you've been looking for. This is a well made steamer from Meyers Prestige. A quality product from a well respected manufacturer. Vegetables don't seam to take 2 minutes in this. This steamer will offer you a lot more options in your kitchen than just doing the veg. This is worth the extra few pounds for the quality and extra cooking options that you can perform. Only drawback is that there is no timer, but I'll forgive them on that one.

As others have said, this is great for steaming vegetables but more than that I cook curries, braise steak and 'griddle' chicken fillets in mine and much more will be done given time. (I have only had it a couple of weeks) Although it is a bit big, being multi purpose makes it worth the space it takes up on the counter top.
A timer would be good but never mind. I would find more recipes useful, even if it was just to give me an idea of what it can do and show some timings.

I was looking for a good steamer, and most of those I was considering had plastic bowls. I took a look at the reviews on Amazon, especially those for the Prestige Cook & Steam, and am so glad I did! The other brands pale into insignificance beside this one. It's SO sturdy and versatile, and the results are wonderful time after time AND it only costs about a tenner more than some of the others. No worries about the bowls cracking on this one (unlike some of the others) AND it is going to last me for quite a few years. This was designed to last.
A big THANK YOU to everyone who sent in a review on this item. It really helped me to make the right choice. All I can suggest is that you get one and see for yourself.

Does everything I hoped it would. The missing timer is no problem at all. Fit loads of food in it and very easy to clean. Just pour boiling water into it to speed things up and all done in 15 minutes. Perfect.
