5 out of 5 stars james martin by wahl coffee grinder zx595   August 7, 2008

Knowing James Martins love of machines(cars)I imagined he would not put his name to anything mechanical if he was not happy with it and so it seems tbe with this little beauty. I have used this grinder for about six months now and have no complaints. Design and build are great and is simple to use,you just keep your finger on the button if you want a stronger brew. Recommended. Standard delivery from amazon took just two days.

4 out of 5 stars It works well and it kinda looks good   January 8, 2008

A coffee grinder is never going to be exciting, but one that doesn't work well is going to be extremely short-lived. Woe betide any gadget that gets between a 6am troll and his morning brew. I am that troll.

This James Martin branded grinder from Wahl does the job it is designed for, and does it consistently well. I recently used another grinder for a week, which has a dial to choose the fineness of the grind. It was rubbish. Even on the smallest setting it produced lumpy grounds which made a bad brew.

This grinder keeps it simple - press the button to grind, keep going until you are happy. The semi-clear lid lets you see what is going on and comes off with a short twist.

The blades, after 3 months, are as new and the whole thing gives the impression it will last for a couple of years, which in modern gadgetry is pretty good.

The design is vaguely pleasing to the eye and all-in-all this is a good grinder and, for the price, great value.

Four stars.

4 out of 5 stars Feels Solid   January 30, 2008

I just ground my first batch of coffee beans and this grinder did the job really quickly with zero fuss.

Holding the grinder, it feels really solid and is a nice weight. Unscrew the cap and drop the beans in; scew-up the cap (it will not work unless the cap is on correctly) and hit the pulse button on the front. There is only one button.

I whizzed for about 15 seconds I guess. I unscrewed the cap and the newly-ground coffee looked fine. One can then pour it out into a lock-tight container for storage in the fridge.

The mains cable can be wound round a 'holder' in the base.

I was going to buy the 55.00 Dualit, but this one -provided it doesn't break- looks like it might do the job just fine.

4 out of 5 stars worth the price...   June 30, 2007

I bought this item looking around amazon for a spice/peppercorn grinder...and the fact that it was branded by one of my favorite chefs made it even more appealing !!!

It has been 6 months since( I thought I'd wait a bit b4 i reviwed it)...

Dont be fooled by appearances. It is a small yet effective power house. grinds superbly...u control the grind quality(push button style-take ur finger off the button once u' think u've achieved it)

but Remember: i have only used it till date for peppercorns and nutmeg/cumin and other spices.

It's sleek and stylish;takes up little storage space.

Considering it will last long...it's a great grinder for the price tag.

2 out of 5 stars Not great coffee!!!   February 18, 2008

Well...I've never felt quite so strongly about an electric motor.

Low power grinder with upturned blades at edges instead of a sensible flat blade causing the device to stick on grounds. Turned good coffee into mediocre mud water. Produces a delightful constipated 'arghhh' as it tries to process. I hate it - but that's obvious I guess.
