5 out of 5 stars Not For Everyone   June 21, 2007

This is a book for women who want to lose weight. Its catch is that it uses 'straight talk' to convey its ideas about how to lose weight. Do not buy this book if you are offended by profanity, which is abundant in the book. I can't really say that this is a 'diet' book, rather it is more of a diet 'method' book which teaches you what and what not to do and you go from there.

The book starts out by telling you quite bluntly (which is the tone of the whole book) what you need to give up, such as smoking and soda. A large part of the book is devoted to telling the reader what to eat and what not to eat. It covers areas such as carbs, sugars, meats, protein, etc. Some of the ideas can come across a bit controversial at times, but the authors do cite their sources which they are to be commended for doing. The book also contains a pretty big list of foods that are okay to buy in case you get confused. All-in-all its an easy to read book that is fairly short and easy to follow. However, the tone of the book will not appeal to everyone. Also recommend The Sixty-Second Motivator as dietary changes are useless unless you're motivated to stick with them.

Read the book opened my eyes to all the yuk that goes into our food today, without reading this book my diet would still be poor and i would still be overweight, i havent followed the book page for page but have definatly made a few life changes and am much happier, healthier and slimmer now.

After reading the other reviews on this book I felt compelled to add my own opinions. I picked this book up (and yes I am ashamed to say this) after seeing it pictured in the celeb magazines in the hands of VB herself and wanting to know what all the fuss was all about. I loved it. I appreciate some people are turned off by the straight talking nature of the authors but if you look past the swear words you will see an inspirational book bursting with facts that will really make you think. I have read several diet books and this is the first one that has actually made sense, the basic rule is put good stuff in and you will look and more importantly feel good.
Please read this book with an open mind.

5 out of 5 stars A Must Read!   August 26, 2007

Everyone who has given this book a bad review has focused on the same point- the swearing! The fact that these reviewers are more concerned with the authors swearing than with the horrors of animal slaughter as detailed in this book, says it all! These people are quick to condone foul language, but they aren't so quick to admit the far worse crime of supporting animal suffering by continuing to eat meat!

This book is excellent. In reference to the swearing, it is a bit heavy to start off with but i find it lessens as the chapters go on. Yes its tough talking but the authors stress that they arent bitches, they dont endorse bitchiness- they are just giving you the facts minus the sugar coating!

Yes its American, but im sure we can all use our heads and find similiar products to those listed. The menus are great, its not all watercress and spinach- there's burgers, fajitas EVEN takeaways!

So you see, its not all bad. In fact, its all good!

5 out of 5 stars At last a diet that works   June 1, 2007

This was a great diet for me as I'm already a vegan, 45 and have been 4 stone overweight for 10 years at least. Even vegans can eat junk food!!! I've finally lost weight using the common sense in this book! It's all so obvious I could slap myself - Duh!
However I can imagine that this may seem like an extreme diet for avid meat eaters, I myself went down the vegetarian route before going vegan so this may not suit everyone.
It's nice to see positive views about vegans being aired though and I'd definitely say any middle aged or elderly woman with stubborn fat can lose weight on this diet.
