 The beech lid appears untreated, oil as soon as you open the box! August 1, 2009

I have had my eye on this bread bin for weeks having seen it in two shops. The bread bins in the shop displays were perfect so I was surprised to read the reviews on here saying the lids warped (some cases after only two weeks) BUT I suspect this is because the owners of the bin did not read or follow the instructions that came with the bin. I received my bread bin from amazon today. The wooden lid was separately wrapped in plastic with absorptive silica. Inside the bin was a slip of paper detailing how to care for the wooden lid. Read the instructions and follow them. The wooden lid appears UNTREATED and so it requires OILING prior to use and also frequently thereafter. This is not a daunting task. All you need is a thin cloth or kitchen roll which you will use to rub vegetable oil into the wooden lid. Make sure you do both sides, the edges and the sunken round handle. Of course I will be getting back to you if despite this the lid warps but I am fairly confident this is the missing link. Enjoy your bread bin.

I brought this bin about 6 months ago. I really like it because it is easy to clean, tough, large and long lasting. Many of my friends have commented on how nice it is and I am buying another as a gift. It is expensive but I think the design and build quality is worth it.

I searched for quite a while to find the right product and Amazon provided all the information I needed to make my choice. The product fulfils all my criteria of quality and design and I love the beautiful solid birch lid - very easy to lift off with one hand and you simply turn it over and use it as a cutting board. Brilliant! Amazon, as ever, delivered the great price, ease of ordering and superb delivery serice.

Great product and service provided by Amazon. The product was initially delivered with a defect but amazon efficiently looked after providing a replacement.

This looks lovely in my white kitchen. I think it looks modern. It is a great size, as it holds a loaf of bread, plus space for more i.e pittas or rolls. Great purchase. Would recommend.
