If you've a bread machine, you need this... UPDATE JUN 08 August 6, 2004 Scampo (UK) 129 out of 131 found this review helpful
Just thought I would update this review as it's been almost four years since I wrote it and since then we've bought one for friends so I can add their comments. Basically, it's just to say that we both find the machine is as good as I said in the first review. It still slices away daily and works like a dream. Yes, as two people here comment, if the bread is white and still warm, then the loaf sometimes proves to be not quite firm enough to push through the slicer perfectly and a less-than-perfect slice results. But that's on very rare occasions indeed. It is, in every way, worth the money. Breadmakers really ought to come with one free for without one the slicing of home made bread is a pain in the neck! Here is the original review: Since buying a Panasonic bread machine a year ago, we have struggled to find a good way to slice the amazing loaves of bread that this machine bakes for us on a daily basis. Well we've certainly found it now. Having struggled with bread knives, knife sharpeners, and special guides, this Kenwood food slicer is a godsend. We saw a friend using a very old manual version a week or so ago and realised then that this was what we needed. We bought one and it is really very good indeed. For less than 30-00 it really is a snip for what it does. And what it does, it does very well. Despite the slowly revolving blade, you feel entirely safe; the machine just slices away merrily, as thick or thin a round of bread as you need and creates perfect slices everytime at sufficient speed to be very useful. I'm sure it would slice anything else you wanted it too, but so far we've only used it for bread. There's more... if, like our kitchen, yours is full of gadgets and space is at a premium, fear not. This slicer folds up easily and neatly, taking up very little space on your worktop.
Kenwood SL250 Food Slicer December 4, 2006 Helmut Pibernik (Scotland) 21 out of 21 found this review helpful
I am absolutely delighted with my Kenwood Food Slicer. After struggling for ages to cut my home-baked vegetable breads by hand this has been a fantastic addition to my kitchen appliances. I have cut meat successfully as well but find cleaning it a bit of a bind so I tend to use it just for my bread. It's great and I can recommend it for that purpose. Well done Kenwood.
great bread slicer! July 11, 2005 Mr. An Mcgavock 40 out of 41 found this review helpful
I bought this after reading the other reviews on display, specifically to cut bread from my Panasonic SD253 (another great machine). I'd previously tried a much bigger BuffaloPro gravity feed slicer ( 300 or so new) which didn't perform very well at all (and went straight back). I haven't tried to cut anything but bread with the Kenwood yet, as I agree the motor is small and the blade rotates quite slowly (compared to the Buffalo!) At the end of the day, you pays your money and makes your choice. I'm glad I chose this, it really will make a difference if you are a keen home baker! In response to the reviewer who bakes medium loaves and finds it fiddly to cut, I bake large loaves and cut it into slices lying on its side, without using the feed guide. It works very well!
fantastic item November 16, 2006 brockies (united kingdom) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
i have one of these as i have hand problems and it is brilliant, at first i tended to go a bit fast as you see people do in a supermarket ect but once i got confident with the speed of the item it was great, i use mine for boneless joints and i love it, it is messier do slice hot meat due to the meat juices going everywhere but i slice just what i need for the meal and then when it has cooled i slice the remainder for sandwiches. i could not be without mine now, i have seen a cheaper branded one which my friends brought and it was no where near as well made and easy to use as the kenwood. i have used it for bread but i tend to use it mainly for meat as i have a width adjusting knife for bread and i find this easier (for me anyway)take the plunge and get one of these as you will find a joint of meat goes a lot further and in the long run it saves money as with a boneless joint of meat you have no waste.
Fantastic !!! November 8, 2007 Mrs. P. Hand (Scotland) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
This machine is great I had one about twenty years ago (don't know what happened to it) and its just the same now as it was then. Having recently purchased a panasonic bread maker this slicing machine makes life so much easier unless you like your bread sliced in wedges. Its cuts bread as thick or thin as you want and it doesn't drag it. I'm pleased with it as without it the bread machine was going into the upboard and you know how things never resurface once that happens. Great for cutting joints too!
