You can just about use it but you have to be careful: in my unit the plunger is not big enough to seat properly into the jug so it sinks under gravity until it sits on the liquid falling slowly. This is ugly rather than obviously wrong at first, but when you depress the plunger, the coffee sometimes shoots round the side, out of the spout and up in the air and then lands wherever it will make the most mess. I have had this happen more than once.
