I have aways wanted to have one of these, but considered it too expensive. However, I had thought the same about Magimix food processors as well, until I bought one and found that in that case, you really DO get what you pay for. Anyway, on the strength of that I decided to buy a Kitchenaid Artisan and I have to say I am absolutely thrilled with it. It ticks all the boxes! It is sturdy, quiet and versatile. I have made cakes, bread, naan bread, whipped cream and real custard, I have even made Yorkshire Pudding batter with it, (though don't tell my mother, she's convinced the ONLY way to make real yorkshire pudding batter is with a fork, lots of elbow grease and a supple wrist!!) It is very easy to use, easy to clean and actually even looks good sitting out on the work top.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this super piece of kit :)

This machine is just divine - beautiful to look at and touch and it does it's work fantastically - very efficient. I love it.

Very solid, does what it is designed for. We have been eating great cakes since we got this, had the best Victoria sponge i have ever tasted. Of course we needed a new recipe book as well before we could pull this off...

I have always wanted one of these since my old 1960's Kenwood Chef broke which I had inherited from my Nan. The new Kenwood seemed very poorly made and I was introduced to the Kitchenaid machine by a lady in our local kitchen shop and it was love at first sight!! It has taken me a while to save but I now have one and I am totally thrilled!
The first thing you notice is the stunning retro looks and the shiny casing. The hardest decision to make is which colour to buy, thats a very personal thing as these mixers will probably last a lifetime. When you pick the Kitchenaid up you will be surprised at the sheer weight of the appliance, and the quality of the workmanship. Even the tools and bowl are as solid as can be.
The smooth speed switch is so simple to use and as the direct drive motor is at the top of the machine, it only uses part of the power needed by other machines which have their motor low down on the stand.
The only down side is that you are unable to use this up against a wall as you have the speed selector on one side and the release tilting catch on the other side, but this isnt an issue for me even though my kitchen is very small.
I agree with some other comments about the price of these machines in the UK being very high compared to America, where they are about a third of the price. Even so I am very pleased with mine and recommend this machine over the current Kenwood Chef anyday.

When you buy yourself any product from KitchenAid, you have decided to own a product of superb design and amazing quality. KitchenAid has been the leading brand of Kitchen Supplys for generations, and this mixer will not change that! I have owned the Strand Mixer Black for about two months, and I am very much satisfied! Not only does it look beautiful and stylish on my kitchen counter, it functions great and is easy to use. When making bread, a batch that often can be big and heavy, it stands steadily on the counter, something I cannot say for mixer I`ve owned in the past... This mixer can also make cake batters, soups, pasta and minced meat, that is if you own the special equipment possible to buy for this machine. I can only say that I am very pleased with this KitchenAid mixer, both its design and functionality. I hope you choose to buy this mixer, I believe you will not regret it!
