5 out of 5 stars really useful accessory   March 8, 2007

I bought a KM001 18 months ago to replace an original 60's machine I inherited off my mum that finally died. Decided to buy this attchment too. Brilliant and so easy. The wife is in awe over how quick it is to use. The brother-in-law (a chef) bought us a hand maker, which was used twice and hidden in a cupboard, too much work. But this is a breeze. Fresh pasta in no time, mix the dough in the main bowl and trickle it directly into the maker. Easy to clean too. Recommended

5 out of 5 stars To Gadget or not to gadget?   September 16, 2009

I probably have every kitchen gadget known to mankind. Like everybody who buys gadgets they are put away after a couple of uses. They rarely really live up to the manufacturers claims. So I bought this pasta maker thinking similar thoughts. However I was very pleasantly surprised at the results. It really does do what it claims.

However you do need to stick to the recipe. Don't deviate from the recipe or you end up with dough, not a crumbly texture that it requires. The dough will work but you run the risk of breaking the machine.

It works & the pasta is delicious. It may seem expensive but if you like pasta it will more than pay for itself in the long run. It's healthy, fresh & just like mamma used to make.

My husband bought me a KM001 a couple of years ago and after having some money for Christmas I decided to buy this attachment as we eat quite a lot of pasta.

I have now used it twice and I can see that this will be one of those things that is used all the time instead of some of the attachments that sit in a cupboard somewhere.

I have to say that the recipe in the book states mix for about 1 minute, in my experience this is more like a few minutes, it states that the mix should be like breadcrumbs and I have found the more breadcrumb like the mix is the better as it clumps in the machine and takes ages to run through if its too lumpy. My first mix was made to the recipe and it took me a while to get it all through the machine, however todays attempt was much better as I left the mix to run a little longer and got the texture right, in fact it was going through the machine so well I was struggling to keep up with it to keep the pasta in small bite size pieces (I was making rigatone today).

It took me about 30 minutes from start to finish so its ideal if you want something fast and tasty.

My next experiment is to try putting things in the mix, I think the first will be some dried chilli flakes to see how that comes out. I think as long as its something quite dry and finely chopped it should be fine. unless part of the egg is replaced with another wet ingredient such as mustard, etc.

I have to say that I find the cleaning quite theraputic however I can imagine that some people would get quite annoyed with it as they need pricking through to get all of the bits out.

I think macaroni cheese might be my next project.

All in all for me personally this is a fab piece of kit, quick and easy to use and will pay for itself in no time.

Well worth the money.

5 out of 5 stars Great Fun & Easy To Use   April 13, 2010

This is one of my favourite attachments and its brilliant fun. Pasta is so simple to make and contains just Flour, Egg and Water to make plain pasta.

This attaches to the slow speed outlet on the front and is really solid despite being made from pastic. Once you have made your pasta dough you must use it virtually straight away. You put small balls inside and push it down with the spanner handle and the pasta comes out so quickly.

The only down side is that one pair of hands is not enough, it helps to have someone to help you as you have to manually cut the pasta at the desired length, however it does stick together and its hard to get the same size all the time. However, when you cook the pasta it does seperate abit which helps alot.

You can pay alot of money for fresh pasta in the supermarkets and there really is no need as it is so much fun to make and its really easy. The taste is much nicer and the texture is so soft. You have so many discs to choose from and you can make so many different types of pasta and spaghetti.

Cleaning can be a pain if you leave it for a while, but it does come with a cleaning tool which speeds up this process.

A great buy that I would certainly buy again.

4 out of 5 stars Great once you get the dough right   August 18, 2009

Bought this off Amazon last month. The pasta recipe in the instructions didn't work quite as it should have for me, but that may have been my fault! As long as you drop the dough in in small enough pieces it works really well. The rigatoni mold is my favourite. The pasta maker attachment seems well made and as long as you let the dough dry out a bit it is easy to clean with the tool provided. Really glad I got this, it makes it homemade pasta really simple and is quick once you get used to it. You can make a large batch of dough and freeze it for other days as well.
